DU Admission 2020 Is Just Three Months & Parents Of Out Station Students Are Going To Have To Look For Options To Find Secure & Affordable Accommodation For Their Daughters. The One Problem With Delhi University Colleges Is The Lack Of Good Hostel Facilities In Colleges. Just A Few Colleges Like Lady Shri Ram College Have Good Hostel Facilities. Others Don't Even Have A Hostel. Parents Then Have No Option But To Look For Private Accommodation Outside. These Students Accommodation Are Know By Names Like PG For Girls / Paying Guest For Girls / Paying Guest Accommodation / Girls Hostel / Student Accommodation Etc.
20 Points To Consider While Selecting A Good PG Accommodation / Girls Hostel For Students :
1. The Neighborhood / Colony You Are Looking For A PG Should Be Near The College.
2. The Neighborhood / Colony Should Be Safe / Preferably Gated & With Guards At Entrance Points.
3. The PG Accommodation Should Be Operated By The Owner Of The Building / House / Flat. The Reason I Am Stressing This Point Is 50-60 Percent Of PG Accommodation Are On Rented Properties. Persons Have Taken Houses / Flats On Rent And Are Running PG's. Here The Problem Is The Person Who Has Taken The House / Flat On Rent Will Charge You 50 Percent Extra To Cover His Rental Cost. So This Is Not Advisable.
4. The Other Problem With PG's In Rented Properties Is Since The Operator of The PG Is Not The Owner He Will Not Invest Much In The Property (Like Upgrading Bathrooms, Dining Hall Etc). He Will Also Not Be Able To Give Much Facilities Because of The Costing & Competition For Owner Run PG's.
5. Also PG's In Rented Properties Are Not Secure As The Owner Dose Not Stay There And Thus Facilities Like 24x7 Medicare, Maintenance Etc Etc Are Not Available Round The Clock.
6. Once You Have Checked The Above Points And Found A Building Owner Run PG Accommodation Then Have A Look At Type of Rooms Provided.
7. Most Good PG's Have Twin / Triple Sharing AC Rooms. Some Even Four Seater Rooms.
8. See If The Rooms Have Attached Bathrooms or Is The Bathroom Being Shared By 7-9 Girls. This Should Be Made Clear While Selecting The PG As Classes Start At 8 am And There Should Not Be A Unbearable Rush / Line Outside The Bathroom Early In The Morning.
9. Also Have A Look At The Facilities Provided. Most Good PG's Provide Facilities Like 24x7 Security, Free Wifi, Individual Study Tables, Individual Books Cabinate, Washing Machine Etc.
10. Compare The Tariffs / Rates of The PG Accommodation With Other PG's In The Locality. Just Search On Google And You Will Find Dozens of Choices For PG Accommodation.
11. Check The Amount of Security Deposit They Keep. If Its Refundable Or Adjustable. Most PG's Take 1 Month / 2 Months Deposit.
12. See If There Is A Lock In Period In The Agreement. Remember After Checking All Points if You Take Up The PG & A Few Weeks Later If You Don't Like The PG In Any Way (Not Good Atmosphere, Not Well Maintained, Terms Changed Later On Etc). In This Scenario Is There A Exit Clause Or Are You Stuck There Because Of The Lock In Period. If There Is A Lock In Period You Could Exit But Most Probably You Will Lose Your Deposit.
13. Ideally There Should Be A One Month Notice Period Either Side.
14. Does The Operator / Owner Of The PG Sign A Agreement With You. If He/She Does Then Read It Carefully For Terms & Conditions.
15. Does The Operator / Owner Of The PG Need Any ID Proof / Parents Mobile No / Local Guardian Name & Mobile No. If He/She Needs It Then Its A Good PG Because It Shows That He Is Keeping Record Of Parents / Local Guardian In Case Of Emergency.
16. It Would Be Best If The Operator / Owner Of The PG Gets The Police Verification Done Of All Residents PG's. This Way You Know All Occupants Of The PG Are Verified. This Creates More Trust In Parents That Their Children Are Secure.
17. Check The Availability of Public Transport Near By. Like Metro, Bus Stand, Auto Rickshaw, Cycle Rickshaw Etc.
18. Check If There Are Shops, ATM, Chemist Etc Nearby Where You Can Buy Your Daily Need Items. That Would Be Convenient.
19. Check The Profile Of The PG On The Internet Or Social Media For Reviews Etc.
20. Ask Around The Area To Get More Information Of The PG.
